Henley in Arden lies amongst the backdrop of beautiful Warwickshire countryside, only about 18 miles from Birmingham and 7 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a lovely place to visit for its’ little boutiques and shops as well as for food and refreshments! We have been there several times for a stroll about and these are some of our favourite places to go.
First on our list in the summer is a must do. The Henley Ice Cream parlour is fab and you must drop in when the weathers fine for some of their fantastic ice cream.
If you’re around Henley for lunch or dinner then our favourite pub of the several that adorn the high street is The Bluebell. Great for a cosy lunch or al fresco dinner the food in general is pretty great. There are several other pubs also so you will be spoilt for choice! On out last visit to Henley we noticed a couple of restaurants that we hadn’t noticed before – Matricardis, La Dolce Piazza and Thai Cottage – I’ve not eaten in them – but I have heard good things about the Thai.
On our latest visit we stopped at a little independent cafe and had coffee and a cake. My hot chocolate was creamy and delicious, and my chocolate eclair was very tasty but a little dry. More cream! They had a fab range of sweets and savouries on offer as well as bread so well worth popping in to see if anything takes your fancy!
I also noticed a great looking butchers shop walking up the high street, lots of beautiful looking cuts of meat, so if you’re in need of some meat when you’re over there – this is the place to go!
A little outside Henley, in a tiny village called Wootten Wawen is a pub called the Bulls Head. It has recently be acquired and renovated by the team behind Anderson’s Bar and Grill in Birmingham city centre and is now known as ‘Anderson’s at the Bulls Head’. On our most recent trip to Henley this was our ultimate destination – to try out their Sunday Lunch menu. We were suitably impressed by their place in Brum, so were looking forward to the lunch. I won’t tell you too much about it now, but suffice to say the portions were huge and we came away more than satisfied. You can read about it in more about it here.
So thats my round up of foodie things to do in Henley. Its a lovely little place so do stop and have a potter about if your passing through or take a little jaunt over there at the weekend.
Oh and I’ll leave you with a little pic of the cutest cottage….oooh and it’s for sale….
Have you been to Henley? Where’s your favourite place to eat here or to visit?
