The Froggat family has been farming in Rugeley in Staffordshire for several generations. In 2005 they started to produce rapeseed oil, which is grown, harvested, cold pressed, filtered and bottled, all on their farm.
The oils have won Great Taste Awards in 2008,09,10 and 2012. Rapeseed Oil has many benefits – it has half the saturated fat of olive oil, is naturally high in omega 3, zero additives and has a high smoke point which makes it suitable for all types of cooking, so why use anything else?
Progressing from plain rapeseed oil, the company have extended into making a range of infused oils including;
- Lemon Infused Rapeseed Oil
- Garlic Infused Rapeseed Oil
- Chilli Infused Rapeseed Oil
- Cold Smoked Rapeseed Oil
as well as an Oriental Stir Fry Oil infused with lemongrass, ginger, coriander and star anise, a Balsamic Dipping Oil and a range of Dressings and Vinigrettes.
The rapeseed oils are incredibly versatile. Since receiving them we’ve tried out all of them in a variety of ways from stir frying to roasting and a deep-frying and they have worked well 100% of the time. The selection of infused oils are delicious – I did a ‘smell test’ with them first where Lee blindfolded me and I sniffed at them all and they were all easily identifiable as the flavour they are meant to be. The chilli one has a great kick and we’ve used that a few times in stir frying and in pasta. The lemon one is perfect when frying fish, but my favourite is without doubt the garlic one, such a depth of flavour and the smell it creates in the kitchen is immense.
The oriental inspired stir fry oil is also a really great idea – it adds a depth of flavour to thai and chinese cooking without having to have all of the individual spices on hand in the cupboard.
The dipping oil also tasted lovely with some simple bread. You have to give the bottle a good shake though before pouring some out to make sure you get enough of the vinegar out as well as the oil because of how they layer up in the bottle.
The dressings we tried out were the Honey and Mustard and the Lemon Garlic and English Mustard vinaigrette. Both were very light and slightly creamy and gave a good coating on salad leaves. Definiely some of the better salad dressings I have tasted recently (which is a lot as I’m a sucker for buying and trying new dressings and condiments every time I visit a shop!)
I love being able to use products that are really local and the Just… company are a great foodie find, I really enjoyed trying out their range and none of it disappointed.
