Product Review: Just Crisps

images

Moving on from producing their award winning Rapeseed Oils (read my review here to find out about the origins of the company) Staffirdshore based Just Oils branched out into the production of Crisps in 2011 and were kind enough to send me some to try!

Their home grown potatoes are sliced with their skins on for the rustic look, and batch cooked in their own Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. The Rapeseed oil contains 35% less saturated fat than sunflower oil, so these are a must for the health conscious among us.

Just Crisps are full of natural flavours and come in six delicious varieties;

  • Unsalted
  • Sea Salt and Black Pepper
  • Jalapeno
  • Mature Cheddar & Red Onion
  • Sea Salt
  • Sea Salt & Apple Balsamic Vinegar

In 2013 Just Crisps Dippers were launched, being 20% thicker and ideal for…yep you guessed it, dipping!

The crisps all come in both the standard sized 40g bag as well as 150g bags and have won both a Heart of England Fine Foods Diamond Award and a Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste award since their launch.

I really enjoyed trying theses crisps, the rapeseed oil does give a unique slightly nutty flavour to the crisp and I must say they are one of the nicest textured and flavoured crisps I have tried for a long time. Usually I am not a fan of plain or purely salted crisps, but these changed my mind about this. The Dippers did indeed go great with the salsa we made to try them with, and the crisps stood up well to rather rigourous dipping (a success in our book!)

By far and away my favourite flavour was the Sea Salt and Apple Balsamic, whilst my husbands was the Cheddar and Red Onion. The Jalapeño had a good kick to them, whilst not being overpoweringly spicy. I hope they go on to produce more flavours of the crisps, I for one would certainly be in line to try them out! (May I suggest pickled onion if you are looking for ideas Just Crisps…I know, I’m weird eh?!)

Overall – a fantastic crisp. The rapeseed oil really does give them an edge and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again and again.
