A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to head up to the beautiful Shropshire countryside to meet up with some fellow bloggers at Brompton Cookery School and B&B, the home of fabulous chef Marcus Bean.
The meet up was organised by Katy Truss and Flo Simpson of the BBC Good Food Show, and as part of my role as a BBC Good Food Show Blogger, the event was to learn all about the upcoming show, find out about some of the amazing producers on show at the event and of course, have a bit of foodie fun at the same time.
We started off the day with a tour of the gardens in the grounds and got a little lesson in foraging. The grounds of the B&B and cookery school are just beautiful, a treat for anyone that stays there.
We then met Rob Swift, of Bread 2 Bake who gave us a masterclass in bread making. This was utterly fascinating and certainly taught me a lot more about the basic processes that are so fundamental to understanding baking. Rob was a total genius with dough, I’ve never seen someone work so quickly and precisely!
We had our own go at shaping and flavouring the dough, with very yummy results, if not quite the presentation achieved by Rob…!
Whilst we were getting down and dirty with the dough, Marcus was busy whipping up some goodies for our lunch, including an asparagus quiche with wild garlic pastry and a great glazed ham, which we had along with some of Robs bread and several patés, chutneys, meats and sauces from producers who are showcasing at the Good Food Show in June, including The Great British Sauce Co, Le Mesurier and Cornish Charcuterie.
The meal was finished off by the most delicious chocolate mousse made again by Marcus fair hands. We got to take lots of goodies home from the event which I have been busy eating and tasting since we got back so look out for a post about all the goodies you can check out at next months show soon.
