Review: Fuzzy Duck Armscote

Deep the Warwickshire countryside lies The Fuzzy Duck at Armscote. Its a quintessential country pub, warm and welcoming and prides itself on it’s hearty but fantastic quality food, so would it live up to it’s reputation?

I chose my starter off the specials menu –  I never can resist a Ham Hock Terrine! This one came with the traditional Piccalilli and some toasted Brioche. It was a really fantastic homemade terrine, the best I’ve had in a good while and probably the highlight of my meal.

Lee chose a Duck liver parfait, port jelly, chicory jam, toasted brioche. He really enjoyed the smooth silky parfait and port jelly it was toped with but wasn’t quite as keen on the chicory jam which was a touch too bitter for him.

For the mains Lee had the Rack of Lamb with Shepherds Pie, Pea Puree and Baby Carrots. The meat was really well cooked and he adored the shepherds pie – it’s one of his favourite things to eat and this one didn’t disappoint.

I went for the slightly unusual sounding combination of Sea bream fillet, celeriac purée, onion jam, sea vegetables, caper, almond & brown shrimp brown butter. There was a lot going on with this plate but all the flavours went together really well.

For dessert lee stuck to cheese while I went for Warm treacle tart, vanilla milk ice cream, orange butterscotch. The tart and the sauce subtly flavoured with orange were really lovely but I think they had scope the wrong ice cream on to the plate as what should have been vanilla milk tasted distinctly and strongly of ginger (which featured an another dessert) Never mind though, it didn’t detract from the main event!

We had some really good pub food at the Fuzzy Duck, I wouldn’t hesitate to return if I was in the area.
